Megan Bousfield

Musical Director

Megan Bousfield started to learn the cornet at the age of 6 from her father and very quickly became hooked on the brass band sound. She played with her family band: Greenalls Brewery Brass Band, The VBS Poynton Band and was the Principal Cornet of the Fodens Youth Band. In 2016 Megan joined the Halle Youth Orchestra as associate principal Trumpet and enjoyed 3 european tours. Following in the footsteps of her father Howard, Megan developed a keen interest in conducting which led her to take part in the 2017 Royal Philharmonic Society’s Conducting Masterclass for Women. After a 5 year break from conducting Megan was appointed the musical director of the Edinburgh University Brass Band in September 2023 and is enjoying her new role with the band.

In 2019 Megan moved from Manchester to Glasgow to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the guidance of the late Nigel Boddice MBE as well as Mark O’Keeffe (BBCSSO) and Peter Franks (SCO). During her time at the conservatoire Megan has performed a range of repertoire, including; Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Elgar's Enigma Variations, Debussy's La Mer and Mahler's 5th Symphony with Martyn Brabbins at the acclaimed Glasgow City Hall’s. Megan was a member of the prestigious Conservatoire Brass Ensemble where she was a featured soloist at the Victoria International Arts Festival in Gozo, Malta. In the autumn of 2022 along with her brass colleagues Megan travelled to the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki to perform Janacek: Sinfonietta with the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo. Megan graduated in June 2023 and was awarded the Robert McCreath Award for outstanding progress and the most significant contribution to the brass department. In 2024 Megan was appointed assistant librarian with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra working with some of the best musicians and conductors the world has to offer.

President

Hi!! I'm Frank, the upcoming president and a cornet player going into my 4th year in band. Brass band is such a wonderful group of people - easily the most welcoming and friendly of any ensemble I've been in here - and I'm so excited to be president for them! Last year was jam-packed, featuring ceilidhs, balls, concerts, trips, even playing on live TV for the rugby! I'm very much looking forward to working with the new committee to keep this momentum going and have another fantastic year. Can't wait to start back up again - see you there!!

Librarian

Hello! I'm Peter, and I'm very excited to be serving as EUBB's librarian this year! I'm from the Seattle area USA where we don't have brass bands, so joining EUBB last year was a new but very welcoming experience. I'm now into the second year of my PhD researching historical brass instruments and have really loved getting into the brass band music. I'm very much looking forward to getting more involved and managing this awesome band's library needs.

Social Secretary

I joined Brass Band a year ago when I started my masters in Edinburgh after only playing the trombone for a year. I was scared that I wouldn’t fit in with being so new to brass instruments but I was welcomed with so much kindness!! I really enjoy playing brass band music and I love the vibe and community during rehearsals (and after lol).

Besides brass band I also love cycling, going camping, cooking or going to gigs!

As one of the new social secretaries I hope to organise some fun and lovely socials that will make new and old members feel welcome and connected beyond music
